A theory that helps learners question their foundational assumptions about what is normal and to become more reflective, inclusive, and open to change. Transformational learning theory is based on three assumptions:
- Personal change is based on a deeper understanding of one’s own culture, values, and history.
- Change is a process of disrupting old patterns of meaning and creating new understandings of themselves and the world.
- Motivation to change behavior follows from the new understanding.
